This is one of the greatest weekends in sports, the weekend of Selection Sunday following Championship Week. It's funny how a full season of basketball and teams need one more win to get into the tournament that are on the bubble. It's exciting that teams that had no chance sweep through their conference tournaments out of nowhere and punch their tickets to the big dance. Yeah I'm talking about you Akron Zips. But that's what makes college basketball great.

No matter how your regular season went you can win the National Championship. Akron could win the National Championship if they win 6 straight games. Now will it happen? No! The point is though that this championship will be won on the court and any team has a chance by continuing to win, no matter who you are. Akron or Duke, North Carolina or Hampton, Ohio State or Alabama State. In college football that isn't the case, TCU went unbeaten and never even got to play for the title. If they were unbeaten in college basketball they would play for the title.

There were lots of great games throughout this week full of hard play, buzzer beaters, teams getting chippy, and so on. I'm sure there will be even more great games in the following weeks and that's what makes this the funnest month of the year for sports fans. This is better than the NFL playoffs and college football bowl season. In the next week people all across this country will be filling out their brackets and the most knowledgeble fans will lose to someone who picked their brackets by which mascot they like better. It happens every year and this year will be no different. There are always upsets because a team only has to get hot one day for forty minutes not a seven game series. That's what makes this the most exciting month in sports.
